Producing a sketch-like still for a transcript by using a series of quick keyboard shortcuts.

You will need:

Quicktime with your clip running. Photoshop running. What you are about to do in the following keyboard shortcuts is copy and paste a still from Quicktime into Photoshop. Once in Photoshop you are going to do by hand the steps which are normally done within an expensive ’Sketch’ filter.

Pause in Quicktime at the desired frame, then

1. cmd B (select none e.g. none of the video, just the current frame)
2. cmd C (copy)
3. cmd tab to Photoshop (switch program QT - Photoshop))
4. cmd N (new file)
5. cmd V (paste)
6. cmd J (create new layer via copy)
7. cmdU (‘desaturate’ or remove colour)
8. cmd J (create new layer via copy)
9. cmd I (invert the black & white which produces a negative image)

The keyboard shortcuts now end as you have to go to your palette and choose from 'Layers' the pop-up selection 'Color Dodge'. At which point your image should go blank

Then use the drop-down menu to find and apply: Filter/Blur/Gaussian Blur

Once the filter control window is up you will have to set it for a level that provides the right balance of line versus texture for your image.
