Module 2: How talk is organised.


In this module, we outline some fundamental features of the way that conversations are organised. The module will address two types of organisation in turn. First, the principles of turn-taking; second, the way talk is organised in terms of sequences of actions.

More specifically, we will cover


• the significance and principles of turn taking [turn-constructional units, transition relevance places, self-selection, other-nomination, overlapping talk


• applying the core principles to complex data
