We have looked at identifying actions, seeing how those actions are done, and at how participants orient to those actions. The final exercise invites you to put all these analytic tools into practice.

Have a look at the following extract. Just prior to this, the mother (M) asked whether their visit to their daughter was badly timed and C states that her parents’ visit is no trouble and outlines plans for the evening. After a pause (line 3), she introduces the next topic.
