The turn-taking system
The turn-taking systems consists of three rules:
1. If current speaker selects next speaker then that speaker is expected to take the next turn.
2. If they don’t then one of two things will happen: a. current speaker can keep the turn, or, b. anybody else can self-select.
3. At the next TRP either 1 or 2 applies.

As you can see the system works on two aspects of next speaker selection: other-selection (Rule 1) self-selection(Rule 2). Let us now consider each of these rules.
